Stop the Progress of Prediabetes

You can prevent this precursor to type 2 diabetes from developing into full-blown disease.
By Madeline Vann, MPH
Medically reviewed by Cynthia Haines, MD

By some estimates, one-third of adults in the United States have a condition called prediabetes; 13 percent have type 2 diabetes. Prediabetes may be more common in men (36 percent) than in women (23 percent).

Prediabetes means that while your blood sugar levels are higher than normal, that level isn’t high enough to warrant a diabetes diagnosis. However, a prediabetes diagnosis means it is time for action to prevent diabetes. “In simple terms, there is a gap between what we call diabetes, which is a fasting blood sugar of 126 and above, and normal, which is less than 100 fasting,” explains Vivian Fonseca, MD, a professor of medicine and pharmacology and chief of endocrinology at Tulane University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.

“In between,” he continues, “you have impaired fasting glucose. If you do a glucose tolerance test, and you are in the gap, you have prediabetes. You are at risk for getting diabetes in the future and you are also at risk for heart disease.”

Type 2 Diabetes: Prevention

If are told your blood sugar is abnormally high, you’ve just had a red flag waved in front of you. You’re being warned that unless you make some changes in your life today, your future will probably include a diabetes diagnosis.

“Walking 30 minutes a day and reducing weight by 5 percent can decrease the risk [of getting type 2 diabetes] by 60 percent over three years,” says Dr. Fonseca. While there are medications that have the same effect, lifestyle change is less expensive and has fewer side effects, Fonseca says.

Cutting your weight is crucial. “One of the links with obesity is that fat induces a mild low-grade inflammation throughout the body that contributes to heart disease and diabetes,” Fonseca explains. Without making any changes, you could develop type 2 diabetes within 10 years of first developing prediabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes: Who Should be Tested?

Prediabetes is a “silent” condition, says Fonseca. While some people may experience symptoms of diabetes such as fatigue or increased urination, most people’s blood sugar rises without any outward signs at all. This means you might not know you need to be tested for prediabetes — and even if you are screened, your doctor might not give you all the information you need to prevent it.

For these reasons, diabetes experts developed criteria for those who should be tested. The American Diabetic Association recommends that any adult age 45 or older should be tested for diabetes and prediabetes.

The ADA also recommends that any adult under age 45 who is overweight and has at least one of the following risk factors should be tested:

* Family history (especially parent or sibling with diabetes)
* Physically inactive lifestyle
* Native American, African-American, or Hispanic heritage
* Prior gestational diabetes diagnosis
* Birth of a baby over nine pounds in weight
* High blood pressure or treatment for high blood pressure
* Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) diagnosis
* Dark, velvety rash around the armpits or neck
* History of heart disease

If your test reveals that you have prediabetes, you should be tested again in one to two years, depending on your doctor’s recommendations.

Type 2 Diabetes: Types of Tests

There are two tests used to screen for diabetes and prediabetes:

* Fasting plasma glucose: a test of your blood after you haven’t eaten for eight hours (usually overnight)
* Oral glucose tolerance test: a comparison of your blood taken first after eight hours without food (fasting) and then two hours later after you have consumed a sugary drink given to you by the lab technician.

If you fit the screening criteria listed above, make an appointment to get tested as soon as possible. It could be the first step toward preventing the development of type 2 diabetes.

Useful Health Information

1. 1 in 8 women in the USA get Breast Cancer; 1 in 6 if overweight, and 1 in 5 if obese! Obese is defined as a BMI of 30 and above. (BMI of 30 is about 30 pounds overweight.)

2. Women who are obese when they are diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer are at a greater risk of dying from the disease than women of normal weight.

3. Avoid sugar and refined carbohydrates. Sugar and refined carbs contribute to obesity and higher insulin levels and women with higher insulin levels have 283% higher incidence of breast cancer. (Check out PlexusSlim.com to help lower and regulate sugar and lipid levels while safely allowing you to lose pounds and inches)

4. Being overweight is a significant contributor to many health problems. It increases the risk of developing a number of diseases including: Type 2 (adult onset) Diabetes, High Blood Pressure (hypertensions), Stroke (cerebrovascular accident or CVA), Heart Attack (myocardial infarction or MI), Heart Failure (congestive heart failure), Cancer (certain forms such as cancers of the prostate, breast, colon and rectum), Gallstones and gall bladder disease (cholecystitis), Gout and Gouty Arthritis, Osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis) of the knees, hips, and the lower back, Sleep Apnea (failure to breath normally during sleep, lowering blood oxygen), Pickwickian Syndrome (obesity, red face, under-ventilation, and drowsiness).

5. Far too often, breast cancer is detected after it has spread and has affected other parts of the body. Regular breast self-examination is an important step to early detection, but most women really don’t know what they’re looking for! (The Breast Chek Kit, can make this much easier, see the breast self exam video at TheBreastDiva.com) Get familiar with “THE GIRLS” and don’t forget your annual Mammogram or Ultrasound, too!

6. Less than 10% of breast cancer cases are genetically inherited. Most women diagnosed with breast cancer do not have a family history of the disease, so why so many cases these days? It is believed that the breasts can store many chemicals within the fatty tissue and because the breasts are largely constrained within a bra for many hours a day, the body has no way of flushing out these toxins. It is known that the breasts can store quite high levels of chemicals from our environment. Studies of human breast milk have shown traces of household cleaning products present! It is believed that there could be a very real connection with the onset of breast disease from these toxins. The purpose of breast massage is to help flush out these toxins via the lymphatic system, and help bring nutrients to the tissues. (The Breast Cream was designed to help remove toxins from the breast tissue. Also, see the lymphatic drainage massage video at TheBreastDiva.com to help drain these toxins from breast tissue.)

7. In the Lancet Medical Journal, Nov 4, 1978, Dr John Douglas of California published an article linking bras with elevated breast temperature, and suggested that this might have a connection with breast cancer.  He studied several hundred women in a medical practice and also observed that the heavier the bra material, the hotter the breast, and that bra-free women of all sizes had cooler breasts. See more about Bras and Breast cancer at: http://www.all-natural.com/bras.html

8. In 1991, researchers at Harvard University published a medical journal article on breast cancer risk.  As a side issue of their paper, they mentioned that the women in their study that did not wear bras had a 60% lower rate of breast cancer than the women who wore bras. (Hsieh, C.C. and D. Trichopoulos, D.  Eur. J. Cancer 27:131-5, 1991 “Breast size, handedness and breast cancer risk”)

9. Many women, who had concerns about breast cancer risk and/or breast pain, quit wearing bras and then found that their pain and cysts of fibrocystic breast disease was dramatically decreased or eliminated.  Several of these women wrote their own personal case histories, which appear on the web at: http://www.all-natural.com/fibrocys.html

10. Do you LOVE DARK CHOCOLATE? Antioxidants are substances that may protect cells from the damage caused by unstable molecules known as free radicals. Free radical damage may lead to cancer. Antioxidants interact with and stabilize free radicals and may prevent some of the damage free radicals might otherwise cause. Examples of antioxidants include dark chocolate, beta carotene, lycopene, vitamins C, E and A and other substances.   TRU Chocolate™ “WOW”  – The Razzle Dazzle After-Taste

Most people feel an amazing after-taste when they eat Tru Chocolate™. After consuming the chocolate wafer, immediately drink cold water.  “Wow,” your water just became chocolate milk!  It is wild!   This is an experiential, “must-try-to-believe” product!

The amazing chocolate after experience is like a sweet taste with a bit of spice added to it that stays in your palate for about 15 – 30 minutes after consuming Tru Chocolate™. This is the result of several of the ingredients in Tru Chocolate™  —  and indeed, it is an indication that it is working!

Tru Chocolate™ is a “Functional Super Food,” i.e. it has a nutraceutical function in addition to its nourishment value. The razzle dazzle after-taste arises from three ingredients:
Bio Flavenoids (from the citrus extract)- are 2000 times sweeter than sugar. It is strong enough for a few molecules to stay in the palate to create that sweet after-taste
Bioperin – is a black pepper derivative enhances the perception of taste. Anything you eat or drink after Tru Chocolate™ will taste stronger
Fabenol – is a lentil derivative blocks the absorption of sugar and, therefore, increases the sensation of sweetness.
The after-taste is an advantage. It induces an individual to drink water, which is very important for weight loss and the body.  Because it makes water taste sweet, one can drink simple water, hydrate the body, and be satiated, instead of filling-up on soda or juice (which are generally high in calories, carbs and sugar).

Known as the “Guilt-Free Chocolate,” Tru Chocolate was created as a healthy and tasty treat for calorie conscious people (who still have taste buds).  Today, it is a delicious treat everyone can enjoy.
All Natural, Toxin Free Ingredients: Organic Cocoa Liqueur, Organic Cocoa Butter, Xylitol, Proprietary Herbal Formula, Natural Vanilla Extract and Organic Lecitin. A proprietary blend containing Momordica Charantia, Dehydrated Noni Fruit, Bioflavonoids (Citrus Extract), Ellagic Acid (from pomegranate), Green Tea Extract, Fabanol®** and Bioperine®** (from black pepper).Note:  These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. Is Drywall the Next Chinese Import Scandal?

from Dr. Mercola:

Hundreds of homeowners are alleging that toxic levels of chemical pollutants like sulfur are being emitted by contaminated drywall made in Chinese factories. Class-action lawsuits have been filed in Florida, California, Louisiana and Alabama. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is investigating the complaints.

During the recent U.S. housing-construction boom, builders were desperate for materials, and drywall was especially in demand. Before 2005, drywall imports to the U.S. from China were negligible; since 2006, however, more than 550 million pounds of it has been shipped to the U.S. — primarily to Florida. The drywall was used to build more than 60,000 homes in at least a dozen states.

Drywall is made from gypsum, a soft mineral, that is pressed between thick paperboard. Plaintiffs’ attorneys say the allegedly toxic drywall material probably originated in at least one gypsum mine in China.

The problem came to light last year as homeowners began commiserating on the Internet about rotten-egg smells in their houses and rashes of nosebleeds and other ailments. At the same time, air-conditioner repairmen began complaining to builders about copper-coil corrosion in newly built houses. The air-conditioning companies concluded it was caused by high levels of airborne sulfur and moldy toxins. Wires in outlets, appliances and lamps started corroding as well.

Sources:

Time March 23, 2009

Dr. Mercola’’s Comments Dr. Mercola’s Comments:

More than 60,000 homes across the country, most of them in Florida, contain drywall from China that may be emitting sulfuric odors and exposing homeowners to respiratory health problems, nosebleeds, headaches, insomnia and sore joints, among other complaints.

The emissions are also corroding air conditioning coils and electronic equipment, which is ruining electronics and could pose the risk of electrical fires.

The problem is so severe in South Florida that congressman Rep. Robert Wexler wrote a letter to the state’s governor asking him to declare a state of emergency because the health and safety risks associated with Chinese drywall are similar to the impact of a hurricane or other natural disaster.

Already at least four class-action lawsuits have been filed in Florida and others have been filed in California, Louisiana and Alabama. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is also investigating the complaints.

A String of Toxic Products from China

China’s economy has been growing at a rate of nearly 10 percent annually for the last 30 years, largely because they are exporting massive amounts of products across the globe.

They’re widely known for producing affordable (cheap) goods, and in recent years have made quite the name for themselves as a producer of toxic goods as well. Aside from this latest revelation of toxic Chinese drywall, the United States has been grappling with a string of toxic disasters from China, which include:

*

Toothpaste and other Chinese-made toiletries that have been found to contain a toxic chemical used to make antifreeze
*

Pet food ingredients laced with toxic melamine
*

Imported livestock quarantined for disease and banned chemical contaminants
*

Catfish fillets from Chinese aquatic farms tainted with bacteria and heavy metals
*

Dried apples preserved with a cancer-causing chemical
*

Mushrooms laced with illegal pesticides

How Can You Tell if Your Home has Chinese Drywall?

Although The Florida Department of Health says tests show levels of emissions from the Chinese drywall pose no “immediate health threat,” affected homeowners are still worried about potential health effects, not to mention the impact on their property values.

Signs that your house may be affected include:

*

The odor of rotten eggs
*

Frequent repairs on your home’s air conditioning system, wiring or pipes
*

Health symptoms including irritated eyes, respiratory problems, nosebleeds and headaches that resolve when you leave your home

According to the Web site of one law firm investigating potential lawsuits against the companies, builders and manufacturers responsible for the Chinese drywall problems, the problem may be related to the presence of iron disulfide (FeS2 pyrite), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbonyl sulfide, sulfur dioxide (SO2), and carbon disulfide (CS2) in the material.

If the Chinese drywall is indeed emitting hydrogen sulfide fumes, it could be a serious problem. The Web site continues:

“Exposure to 50 parts per million of hydrogen sulfide for more than ten minutes can cause extreme irritation. Inhalation of 500 to 1,000 parts per million can cause unconsciousness and death through respiratory paralysis and asphyxiation, according to environmental experts.”

If you suspect your home may be at risk, contact your state’s Department of Health, your home’s builder and also an attorney for help.

Other Toxins to Watch Out for in Your Home

Products from China are not the only ones tainting our houses and office buildings. Any number of potentially toxic substances exist freely around us in our daily lives.

For instance:

*

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are toxic gases emitted from paints, cleansers, air fresheners, vinyl floors, carpets, upholstery fabrics, and much more, can cause cancer and damage to your liver, kidney and central nervous system.

VOCs in the indoor air of new buildings have been found to average 20 to 40 mg per m3. Adverse health effects may begin with exposure at just 10 mg per m3.

*

Certain pressure-treated wood products used for decks and playground equipment are treated with pesticides that contain arsenic.
*

Engineered wood products commonly used to make cabinets, furniture, wall paneling and more emit pollutants such as formaldehyde into your home’s air.
*

Foam furniture padding, mattresses and more contain flame retardants known as PBDEs, which are highly toxic and now showing up in breast milk.

This is truly only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the chemicals floating around most homes and office buildings.

In order for you to be truly healthy, your home needs to supply you with adequate opportunity to rest and relax. It needs to nurture, as it is only through this that you can truly recuperate at the end of the day and recharge with the strength to deal with the next day‘s emotional and physical stresses.

Unfortunately, many are now residing in homes that only add to their chemical loads and emotional stresses.

Is it Possible to Make Your Living Environment Healthier?

You may not be able to build a new “all-natural” home or office for yourself, but you can make small changes to bring more natural and healthy materials into your living spaces by:

*

Filtering your home’s air using a high-quality air purification system like the one we have identified.
*

Redoing a portion of your home with a natural material, such as bamboo flooring.
*

Avoiding all chemical cleansers, air fresheners and detergents, and switching to natural varieties instead.
*

Installing full-spectrum lighting to bring the benefits of natural sunlight indoors.
*

Adding houseplants to your home and office.
*

Getting outside to spend some time in a natural environment as often as possible.

You can also look into Bau-Biologie (German for “Building Biology”).

The Bau-Biologie standard is used in Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand — as a benchmark to professional and independent measurements in houses. The goal is to create an environment as close to nature as possible to best support your physical health and mental well-being.

Is Your Home Making You Sick?

It is a known fact that our environment and the toxins in it affect our health. So many people with cancer today have no family history of the disease. How are so many getting sick?

We need to take better care of our health and that means changing some of our bad habits. We need to be more aware of toxins in our home and how they affect our bodies! Our cleaning products, personal products, even our clothing could be making us sick! The chemicals, pesticides, hormones and poisons in our foods contribute to toxicity, obesity and diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

New Years Resolution update!

Monday January 5th, I started my New Year’s Resolution to lose weight for this year. I’m writing this in an effort to keep myself on it, and let you know that if you have weight to lose, this is a very safe and healthy way to change your lifestyle!

I did it back in January of 2007, and lost 37 pounds that year and kept if off almost a full year. 2008 came and went and I found myself at 208 pounds on January 5th. Needless to say, I’d gained it all back plus some! I’m a big boned girl, so 175 is my ideal weight. 33 pounds is my goal for this year! (The sad thing is, I’d been taking enRgy for the whole month of December and had already lost 5 pounds, even through the holidays!)

On Monday, I weighed and measured myself and my total inches for measuring neck, bust, both upper arms, diaphragm, waist, abdomen, hips, both thighs, knees, and calves totaled 398.75 inches! Today after the 1st 2 cleanse days of Isagenix’s 9 day cleanse, I weighed 202 lbs, and my total inches measured 372.75! That’s 6 pounds and 26 inches!!! There were inches lost on every measurement, even my neck! Since I am apple shaped, most of my weight is to the front of me and around my midsection. I even lost 2 inches off my waist. Needless to say, the next 5 days will be MUCH easier, and I am so encouraged to keep going!

I won’t say the 2 cleansing days were easy, they weren’t. You’re drinking 4 oz of the liquid cleanse followed by 8 ounces of purified water 4 times a day, plus an accelerator capsule in the a.m. and after lunch. There are also little chocolate (or vanilla) wafers they call snacks that you can eat between your cleanse drinks and if you absolutely need to, you can eat a small handful of almonds, a hard boiled egg, 1/2 an organic apple or a couple of slices of Hormel all natural smoked turkey, but not all of them, just 1.

Today on day 3, and for the next 5 days, I’ll get a chocolate shake for breakfast, a nice and healthy 400-600 calorie high fiber, lunch of my choice, and then a shake for supper (much better than the last 2 days of cleansing!) then finally next Monday and Tuesday, I’ll finish it off with 2 more cleansing days.

Last time when I did this I’d lost 17 lbs during my 9 day cleanse from Isagenix, and my husband, Bart, lost 19. This time I’m doing it by myself, and I must say doing it with a buddy is much easier!

Once I do my 9 days, I’ll start on the South Beach diet and keep taking my enRgy supplement from GBG which has had me cleaning house and feeling much more energetic than I have in a long time. I think this is a great plan for me to get on track for a healthier 2009!

I’ll keep you informed of my progress again in a few days! If you have questions, call me at 985-892-5858.

Nutrient that puts “Merry” in Christmas…

by Al Sears, MD

Do you get blue on Christmas?

You should be happy…right?

But sometimes we feel stressed, anxious, lonely, or depressed.

If you go to your doctor he’ll give you drugs. These drugs are not only expensive, but they have dangerous side effects. And the long-term impacts on your health are anybody’s guess – insomnia, sexual problems, weight gain, fatigue, and suicidal thoughts.

There are a lot of reasons you get sad during the holidays; fatigue from too much activity… financial woes… family tension. But if you believe the National Mental Health Association, they report holiday depression usually follows unrealistic expectations.1 You can hold on to memories of ideal holidays from years ago, or have expectations that everything will be perfect.

They wouldn’t know this though… You may be blue today from a lack of a critical nutrient. This is a time of year when you probably will attend lots of parties, overindulge, and eat all the wrong foods. As a result, you get even less of your valuable omega-3 fatty acids.

So what does fat have to do with depression or brain function? Heck of a lot, in fact.

Your body needs fat to make brain and nerve cells. What’s more, fat can actually put a smile on your face. It helps the membranes of your brain cells absorb the natural chemicals that put you in a good mood, and keep you there. The fat that your brain craves most is omega-3.

In one study, participants took a pure omega-3 supplement. The result? Their brains started growing. In fact, the parts of their brains that grew were directly responsible for happiness.2 In other studies, researchers found that people suffering from major depression had very low levels of omega-3 in the areas of the brain that help with mood.3

You can easily start boosting your omega-3’s intake today. For the full antidepressant benefit take between 1,000 mgs (1 g) and 4,000 mgs (4 g) per day.

Here’s a list of foods rich in omega-3’s.

Food

Serving Size

Omega-3 Amount

Mackerel (canned in oil)

4 oz drained

2.2 g

Bluefin Tuna (fresh)

4 oz cooked

2 g

Wild-caught Salmon

4 oz cooked

1.9 g

Sardines (canned in oil)

4 oz drained

1.8 g

Flax Seed Oil

1 tbsp

6.9 g

Cod Liver Oil

1 tbsp

2.8 g

Olive Oil

1 tbsp

0.1 g

Flax Seeds

1 oz

1.8 g

Walnuts

1 oz

2.6 g

Egg (organic, cage free)

1 large

270 mg

Grass Fed Beef

3.5 oz

100 mg

Cod liver oil supplements are a good way to go. They come in both oil and pill form, and you can find them in most vitamin shops and health food stores.

In addition to getting enough omega-3’s in your diet, consider trying some of these helpful tips to make your holiday brighter.

  • Maintain your relationships with your family and friends, and start new traditions with them. This will help you to feel less lonely around the holidays.

  • If you are feeling overwhelmed, learn to ask your family and friends for help. Many of them will be more than happy to lend a helping hand.

  • Get out and exercise. Go ice-skating, go for a walk, build a snowman with your kids. Do your 10-minute PACE routine. Exercise will energize you and put you in a good mood.

  • Avoid or reduce your consumption of alcohol. It can deepen your feelings of depression.

  • Get in the holiday spirit by doing holiday things. Decorate a tree (big or small), build a gingerbread house, or go to mass at your local church.

  • Volunteer. Helping someone who’s struggling more than you will help you feel better about yourself and help you remember the true meaning of Christmas.

  • Lastly, just breathe. Take a few minutes out of every day to breathe. Take deep breaths, inhaling through your mouth. Be aware of the moment. Focus only on your breathing, in and out, and let all the other stuff just melt away.

I wish you only the best health and happiness for this Christmas and for the coming New Year.

Doctor’s House Call

by Al Sears, MD

There’s a sea of change underway that has broad implications for your performance, fertility, and virility.

It’s caused by chemical compounds – found in everyday products – that mimic estrogen, the female hormone.

More and more men show the warning signs. They’ve developed male “breasts,” fatty tissue that develops over the pectoral muscles. They’ve put on weight, lost their libido, find they don’t have the same “get up and go,” and even have trouble getting their partners pregnant.

In women endocrine disruptors cause weight gain and are linked to several health problems.

The cause lies all around us. Endocrine disruptors can be found in pesticides, clothing, plastics, cosmetics, detergents, hair sprays, even our food and water supplies.

They bind to your body’s estrogen receptors and stimulate hormonal responses that are feminizing for men, and dangerous for women.

About two months ago in my Doctor’s House Call I told you about one of the most widespread endocrine disruptors, Bisphenol-A. It’s used in plastics, food and drink packaging like water and infant bottles, compact discs, impact-resistant safety equipment, and medical devices. Epoxy resins used as lacquers to coat metal products such as food cans, bottle tops, and water supply pipes contain it. Some dental sealants and composites may also contribute to BPA exposure.

Problem is that we have very little research examining these compounds’ long-term effects on humans. But several studies concluded that low-level, continuous exposure to BPA can be harmful to your health.1-2

If you don’t think this is a serious problem, consider this: the 2003-2004 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found detectable levels of BPA in 93 percent of 2517 urine samples from people six years and older.3

Right now we don’t know just how much exposure you’re getting to these endocrine disruptors. Here’s what you can do:

First, have your estrogen levels checked. For most men, the optimum levels are four parts testosterone to one part estrogen. Your total estrogen level should be below 100. For women, consult with your gynecologist, as estrogen levels change over your lifetime.

Here are some additional things you can do to limit your exposure to these harmful chemicals and reclaim the things that make you a man – or a woman.

  • Eliminate pesticides from your water: I recommend drinking only purified water.
  • Wash your vegetables and fruits before you eat them.
  • Cut off any visible fat from meat before cooking, since chemicals and hormones from the feed collect in the fat.
  • Avoid processed meats, because they have fat ground in.
  • Avoid processed carbohydrates like bread, cereals, and pasta. They make your body release excess insulin, which builds fat and stimulates feminizing estrogen.
  • Eat vegetables high in fiber to keep yourself regular. When stool remains in your bowel for a longer time, more estrogen is absorbed.
  • Eat more cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels’s sprouts, and cabbage. They help you excrete excess estrogen.
  • Eat hormone-free food and free range animals whenever possible.
  • Incorporate more estrogen-inhibiting foods into your diet. Some of the best and tastiest sources are squash, onions, green beans, cabbage, berries, citrus, pineapples, pears, grapes, figs, melons, sesame seeds, and pumpkin seeds.

21 Reasons to Cleanse and Replenish

   By Becky Natrajan, M.D.

  1. Strengthen the Immune System. Cleansing impurities and flooding the body with high grade essential nutrients strengthens the immune system. Some studies indicate that a healthy dose of high grade, absorbable protein will strengthen your immune system by as much as 500%.
  2. Love Your Liver. A clean, healthy liver supports metabolism and burns fat. A healthy liver promotes normal thyroid function and when the thyroid is healthy, your metabolism and energy levels escalate.
  3. Support Healthy Brain Chemistry. When your body can effectively absorb and digest fats and protein, it converts these nutrients into healthy brain chemicals. When your brain chemistry is aligned, you will make healthier food selections.
  4. Restore Antioxidants. Toxic compounds create “free radicals” that have the potential to damage cellular DNA-thus leading to cancer, weakened immune systems and accelerated aging.  Antioxidants are substances that block free radical formation and destroy already formed free radicals.
  5. Free yourself from stress. In herbal medicine, adaptogens are used to help the body “adapt” to imbalances that stress the body externally or internally. Replenishing the body’s needed adaptogens assists in the bodies own self-regulatory systems, thus reducing stress.
  6. Maximize Absorption of Essential Nutrients. Maximizing absorption of nutrients helps to fuel the internal body to support all major organ systems including the circulatory, musculoskeletal, and neurological systems.
  7. Aid Digestion. Herbs such as suma, peppermint, fennel seed, and licorice have been used in many cultures to support and aid in digestion. Peppermint is a nontoxic digestive remedy that can provide relief from gas, bloating, nausea, and gastric upset. Peppermint has a calming effect on the smooth muscle of the intestinal tract and is felt to promote the flow of bile from the gallbladder into the small bowel, thus aiding in the digestion of fats.
  8. Rejuvenate Your Cells with Ionic Minerals. Minerals are the key to enzyme activation in our digestive tract. When minerals are present, our intestines allow for ultimate absorption of vitamins and essential nutrients. Modern lifestyle has taken its toll on our digestive/elimination organs. Ionic (charged) minerals are the most easily absorbed by our body.
  9. Support Your Vital Organs.  If your body is overwhelmed with impurities, gentle cleansing herbs and essential nutrients will allow it to eliminate toxins through the liver (the major detoxifying organ of the body), colon, urinary tract, sweat glands, skin pores, and the lymphatic system much more effectively.
  10. Lose Weight and Feel Great. Studies have shown that fat cells provide the perfect environment for holding onto toxins. This is our body’s natural mechanism for protecting itself from dangerous, often deadly toxins. Cleansing aids in the body’s ability to flush fat and increase metabolism.
  11. Eliminate Unhealthy Cravings. The healthy body will crave healthy things. The unhealthy body will crave unhealthy things. Cleansing and replenishing allows the internal body to create an environment that craves good, nutritious food.
  12. Enhance Cellular Communication. Our cells want two things: good nutrients and a clean environment in which to communicate. Cleansing provides our cells with both.
  13. Build Muscle. Cleansing, then replenishing with pharmaceutical grade organic whey protein provides the body with essential amino acids that are the building blocks for the development of lean, dense muscle.
  14. Address Diabetes. Type II diabetes is a serious disease that is rampant because of our lifestyles. Effective weight loss and fueling of the body can aid in the body’s ability to restore normal sugar levels.
  15. Beautify The Skin. Our skin is the largest organ of our body. Cleansing and replenishing rejuvenates our skin, making us appear younger and suppler.
  16. Create Abundant Energy. Better sleep cycles, achieved through cleansing, provide the body with stamina, energy, and mental clarity throughout the waking hours.
  17. Balance Your Hormonal System. Cleansing and replenishing balances hormone levels, leading to a feeling of constant well being, increased stamina and increased sexual desire.
  18. Slow the Effects of Aging. Toxins and nutritional deficiency can lead to premature aging on an internal and external level. Cleansing and replenishing allows our cells the ability to attack the effects of aging head on. A younger appearance along with incredible energy is often the result!
  19. Address Cancer. Researchers suggest that approximately 90,000 cancer deaths may be related to obesity and are therefore, preventable. For almost all cancers, the risk of death increases as body mass increases. Cleansing and replenishing often results in significant weight loss and, thus can reduce the risk of cancer.
  20. Enhance Elimination. Refined, processed, low fiber foods, animal fats, lack of exercise,
dehydration, and an ever-increasing level of stress all contribute to an irritable bowel and to sluggish elimination from the intestinal tract. Cellular cleansing and replenishing with fiber rich nutrients allow better colonic elimination of impurities and is essential in the prevention of intestinal disorders.
  21. Never Diet Again! Cleansing and refueling the body is an “anti-diet” approach to optimal health and weight management. “Diets” are often imbalanced and neither strengthen the immune system nor rid the body of toxins. Imbalanced diets rob the body of essential nutrients and only offer temporary results. Why not embrace a program that gives the body the right nutrients, the right balance and the ability to once and for all chronically defend itself against the battle of the bulge?
